A team led by the Agricultural Marketing Division of Food Corporation of Bhutan Limited (FCBL), accompanied by officials from the Department of Agricultural Marketing and Cooperatives (DAMC) and the Bhutan Food and Drug Authority (BFDA), is currently conducting Potato Awareness and Cooperative Formation activities in Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag. The initiative is aimed at strengthening agricultural marketing systems and encouraging greater farmer participation through the establishment of sustainable potato cooperatives. The programme is specifically focused on the gewogs of Gangtey and Phobjikha, which are among the leading potato-producing areas in the region. Through this initiative, the team aims to promote collective marketing practices, strengthen collaboration among farmers, and create improved and more sustainable market opportunities for potato growers. The awareness programme also seeks to enhance farmers’ understanding of the benefits of cooperative formation and coordinated market participation. As outreach and engagement activities continue with farming communities, FCBL seeks the understanding, cooperation, and active support of all stakeholders. Through collective efforts, the initiative aims to improve agricultural marketing practices, strengthen market access, and contribute towards sustainable livelihood development and the long-term growth of the farming sector.
