The Hon'ble Finance Minister, Mr. Namgey Tshering, accompanied by officials from the Ministry visited the Food Corporation of Bhutan Limited in Phuntsholing yesterday. His Excellency graced the reception by offering a butter lamp in the FCBL Choe-Sham. He was greeted into FCBL's conference for the reception by offering Tashi Khadar from the FCBL employees.

As part of the reception programme, the Chief Executive Officer of FCBL made a presentation on the mandates, performances and the core activities of FCBL. During the presentation, the CEO pointed out some of the major constraints that impede the services and the sustenance of FCBL. He also shared FCBL's future plans for business diversification in the areas of agricultural marketing for which he solicited blessing and resource support from the government.

Following the presentation, Lyonpo acknowledged the contributions made by FCBL, particularly in the areas of food security and distribution across the nation and for providing marketing platform to the farmers which is crucial for the equitable socio-economic development of the country. Lyonpo announced that the new government plans to roll out a Flagship programme under the project name, 'Organic Bhutan', to which, Lyonpo said, FCBL could be one of the leading counterparts. While Lyonpo ensured unreserved support to FCBL, he raised concerns regarding the economic viability of the farm shops and instructed FCBL to consider a thorough review.
